Guest Preacher: Rev. Catherine Day
We are pleased to be hosting guest preacher, Rev. Catherine Day for three weeks in January (17, 24, 31). Rev. Catherine (Kay) Day is a recently retired teaching elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
She served for the past nine years as a mission co-worker in Rwanda, Africa. She was a lecturer in Practical Theology and English at the Protestant Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, in Butare, Rwanda, a school that trains pastors from five different protestant denominations, as well as offers degrees in education and development studies. In theology, she taught preaching and New Testament as well as Systematic Theology and, for the other faculties, she taught English. In a country that just ten years ago adopted English as its international language, for a native English speaker to teach English is a blessing. In addition, she pastored a small English speaking congregation near the campus. Prior to going to Rwanda, she served as a mission co-worker in Malawi, Africa for four years.
In preparation for this service, Kay served as a pastor of local congregations in Pittsburgh Presbytery for over 10 years. She served the Mt. Pisgah congregation for 7 years. Prior to that she was the chaplain at Longwood at Oakmont, a retirement community for 7 years and during that time also served as a part-time interim at the Bellevue Presbyterian Church and as a Stated Supply at the Hoboken Church in Blawnox, PA.
Prior to her ordination, she was an English teacher at the high school and then the college levels. Kay has a master’s degree in English and in Divinity. She was part of the Pittsburgh Presbytery partnership with Blantyre Synod, Malawi for 15 years. She served on the Committee of Preparation for Ministry for the Presbytery for 6 years
Welcome to Heritage, Rev. Day!
